The first frog of this kind was designed more than 20 years ago by Lucy Ravinsky. In 2006, she met Dukeslande Florestal the president of Poetik Gifts who was looking for a fundraising gift item that would be unique and fun. The two women decided to collaborate and created a special frog. Thus, Lulu the Lucky Star was born. AIDS is an overwhelming epidemic and million of African children have and continue to be devasted by it. This little token of joy strives to bring attention not to the sad reality of this situation, but to the possibility of hope attached to the simple fact that these children somehow survive to see the light of day. It may not seem like much considering the lives that they have to lead, but the miracle of life still prevails in the end. Lulu is meant as a celebration of this gift of life regardless of the conditions. This is why she is considered  such a lucky star.
